A Bit About Us
My love for photography began as the high school yearbook editor in the mid 1980s. I laid aside my artistic passions for years to pursue a career in the information technology field as a computer programmer and technology analyst. The new millennium brought with it a series of trials and tragedies. In early 2015, I pulled up my ‘big girl panties’ and set out on a new course for my life. At 49 years of age, I immersed myself in the college scene fully to obtain my Associate of Applied Science Degree in Photography from Iowa Central Community College.
As a photographer, I was inspired to go deeper into the wild by the work of Thomas D. Mangelsen at the Mangelsen – Images of Nature gallery in the Old Market of Omaha, Nebraska. Based in Ottumwa, Iowa, I travel to destinations where the wild things roam.
I placed in several shows/exhibits on and off campus during college. In addition to having an image selected for the Iowa State Fair Exhibition Hall, I was also selected as an Emerging Artist for the state of Iowa in 2017. Currently, my images are frequently featured on Fine Art America. I have online galleries at Photo Art Pavilion and Fine Art America.
I am the owner/lead photographer of Angels and Arrows, Portraits by Teresa. My gallery art is derived from a deeper more intimate place; therefore, I run it under a subdivision of the business entitled ‘by Teresa Jean’.
Mother of three, grandmother of three: I continue to mourn the loss of three. My daughter, Ariel, and granddaughters, Gabriela and Cloe Marie, are my angels in heaven. They represent the softer side of my photography. There is innocence that is caught or lost in the blink of an eye.
In 2016, my mother and I were in a head-on collision which left me disabled. This along with an uncanny number of tragic events in my life, have curated a unique artistic flare that shines forth in my artistry. For each image that I capture, I realize even though it may have taken an extraordinary physical effort, it is worth it. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. My eye is beholden to the journey of my life’s experiences.
